Jindaiji is one of the oldest temples in Tokyo, second only to Sensoji Temple. But because it is located in the suburbs, it is less prosperous but more elegant than the Sensoji Temple in the capital.
In this tour, you can see the temples and pavilions surrounded by green mountains and water. You will be surprised that there is such a temple in Tokyo. It is such a quiet place; time seems to stop here.
The Temple was built in the Nara Period (733), and the founder of the mountain was Master Mangong. The master’s father, Fukuman, fell in love with the daughter of the Hao clan but was opposed by the girl’s parents who isolated the girl on an island in the lake. Fukuman went to pray for the water god (Jinja Daiō). The water god appeared and let his monster pet carry Fukuman to the island.
The girl’s parents agreed to their marriage after learning about the event. Later, the child was born, and Fukuman let the child become a monk to worship the water god. This is Master Mangong. The Master founded this temple in 733 and named it “Jindai-ji” because of the water god Jinjai. Therefore, Jinjai Temple is also a famous lover’s temple. Some people come here to pray for marriage or love.
